I'm still smiling. I had the pleasure of flying my 2 sons in to help me move. My promised was that everything would be packed and all they would have to do was get the truck and load it up.
Well, needless to say, two weeks later and upon their arrival I literally had one box packed. One!
My goal was to pick them up from the airport and never mention my progress, and distract them with how happy I was to see them and what a great feeling it was that we were all together for the 1st in about six years since we all live in separate states. I was busy playing with my 1 year old granddaughter, trying to keep the boys engaged in a conversation, that lasted for about one hour, until I noticed out of my peripheral that they gave each other a look, then I though oh oh, they noticed, I'm busted!!!
When they were younger I used to have them sit in on my business meetings and teach them the art of negotiation, my rule was "The first to speak lose". So instead of asking me about the packing that I promised, they put the two rolls of packing tape on the table along with the scissors. And I cracked up laughing.
The following morning, they got up early and proactively collected the moving truck and seven hours later the job was done, without me giving one ounce of direction of what to do or where to go. As I packed it they moved it. The next day when I went to my new home, I cried. My sons had put everything in it's place, all the boxes were in the appropriate rooms all cut opened, they even knew the box marked "URGENT" was my Wine. I was so very proud of them all I could do was smile.
We spent the night talking and laughing about when they were younger and how their friends used to call me the coolest mom and my sons would always remark, yeh right.
It's been a week since they left and I'm still smiling as I walk around. Parenting is a tough lifelong job. Spend quality time with your children when they are young, and watch them flourish... they will make you Smile!
